CRYMYCH CLIMBING HIGH

Division 1 West

Crymych 21 Llangennech 17

Crymych made the perfect start against Llangennech with a try straight from the kick off but they nearly gave the game away in the closing stages as the visitors made them pay for some sloppy defending.

The Preselimen though managed to soak up the pressure and hold out for the win they deserved to complete a season double over the Carmarthenshire outfit.

Full back Gavin Thomas crossed for a superb touchdown  after only a minute of this match after a succession of phases saw him get over for a try with the visitors not getting their hands on the ball until the re start.

Llangennech though re-grouped and bounced back with a try from Rhodri Owen, converted by Carwyn Richards and the visitors, who were a very well drilled side pushed hard for another score and the Crymych defence with the likes of second row Dion Gibby and number eight and man of the match Guto Davies having to put some big tackles in to keep the opposition out. The Preselimen absorbed the pressure and hit back with an individual try through outside half Jake Jenkins who picked up the ball in broken play and quickly spotted a mismatch of a prop in the middle of the park and hit the gap at pace and touched down under the posts. This fine try was converted by Gareth Davies to put Crymych 14-7 ahead at the break.

Poor discipline by the hosts gave away a succession of soft penalties in the second half and Llangennech outside half Carwyn Richards kicked deep into the corners and kept the Preselimen pegged in their own twenty two metre area for long periods and they pounced for their second try when hooker Owen crossed for his second of the match to make it 14-12.

Crymych came back again and were unlucky not to score with the final pass letting them down on a couple of occasions but they eventually crossed when some quick thinking from inside half Davies, who took a quick tap and ran through and slipped the ball to Gavin Thomas who then put second row Dion Gibby in under the posts.

Llangennech though were not yet beaten and they came back with a try from prop Liam Tobias to set up a very tense final few minutes with Crymych leading by 21-17. The home side though managed to hang on for the win and four points to take them above rivals Aberystwyth and the two teams go head to head this weekend at Plascrug.
